Fly Girl; Part Deux

I did it! I now have a lovely vintage suitcase table/night stand.

Not bad for being my first time ever picking up a power drill. lol I am selling it locally on Craigslist here but if there’s anyone out here in blogland that would like to buy it, contact me so we can coordinate the logistics. 🙂

Fly Girl

vintage suitcase

Real vintage mid-century gem picked up at a local estate sale. Love the way it looks like it’s been places… lots of places  at a time when air travel was a fancy and glamorous affair.

I think I’ve decided to decoupage it  or possibly making a table out of it like in the pic below:

My Purpose to Re-Purpose

I love love love doing repurposing projects! I feel like I saved something from sure death and magically gave it a new purpose, a new life! Following is my most current recycling project I did for my youngest sister. Continue reading

Dressed to Kill…It!

Isn’t this wallpaper cool? And that handbag? Gorgeous! Don’t worry chartreuse scarf I love you too.

I’m realizing more and more how fashion and interior design are truly intertwined. I’m sure lots of amazing rooms were inspired by the pages of Vogue and not House Beautiful. Never really thought about this connection until design school though. The majority of the students always dressed with so much style I thought maybe our grades depended on it. Nary a Juicy sweat, faded hoodie, or a nasty bedhead witnessed here! I guess if you can dress up a house stylishly, you can manage to dress a human being nicely as well? Looking deeper at it, both practices follow the same basic principles: Balance, proportion, scale, function… Well maybe not function so much. I’ve worn many a tight pencil skirt and 4″ inch heels to work. I could barely walk, let alone function. Hey at least I looked good?! Haha

As sweet as…

I love to bake. Most likely because I love sweets. For a long time, I never even thought of attempting making a pie from scratch so I would visit my local Marie Calendars or  sadlyMcDonalds for my pie fixes. Last year my son asked me if I could make him a blackberry peach pie. (Why such a complex combo I will never know lol) I thought I would cringe at the thought but I actually looked forward to it and it was in that moment I overcame my longtime pie crust phobia! I made it and it turned out pretty amazing on the first try. Now Im a pie making machine! lol

The only thing I can’t seem to get a handle on is transferring the top crust. I get it rolled out okay but on the transfer it usually breaks on me. My solution? COOKIE CUTTERS! I just cut out the dough with whatever cookie cutters I have on hand and layer the cut outs on top. This is what Ill do until I get the traditional top crust method right. Much more fun anyway haha!

The pie crust recipe is here, courtesy of Bobby Flay and Food Network. Below are pics of the pies I’ve made using this “technique”

Lily’s Back Entry Wall

My hairstylist sister came to me for help regarding styling her currently non functional “blah” entry lol Her and her husband wanted a spot for hanging coats, keys, and shoes, boots etc. I used Olioboard to create the concept using a photo she sent to me. I was inspired by the peaceful, beachy, horse image I found.
